The Sameera Gokal Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization that works to shape journalism skills in the developing world through focus areas in mentorship, internship and by offering financial assistance for student media projects, without regard to faith, origin or gender. The Foundation provides philanthropic assistance and networking to journalism schools to promote humanitarian causes and projects in developing countries.

One hundred percent of the Foundation’s proceeds go to participating programs at the schools, with no deductions for administrative expenses.

3rd Annual Mentorship

Registration is now open for the 3rd annual SGF Mentorship Program. If you are a final-year undergraduate journalism student in a developing country who would like to be mentored, or if you are a journalist in the U.S. and wish to dedicate your time and knowledge for the next seven weeks to make a difference in a student’s life, then please apply by clicking on the Mentorship tab. Application deadline is September 12, 2016. The program will commence on September 19, 2016.
   
2nd Annual Mentorship

The second group of mentors has initiated communication with their mentees in Nepal. The mentorship program is designed for the mentors to make a difference in the mentees’ life through constant guidance and critiques, lectures, small projects and possible publications.
   
Study Abroad Internship

Update: Write Like a Pro
September 18, 2013

The Foundation held Write Like a Pro for college students today at Agnes Scott College. Experts in the field held an interactive learning session where they taught students how to write like a journalist and post news stories on Social Media sites. Guest speakers included journalists Mike Tierney, Eric Stirgus and Sonia Moghe.
